Why did you choose UW-Stevens Point at Wausau?

I chose UW-Stevens Point at Wausau because Wausau is my home. UW-Stevens Point is local and carries the reputation of being part of the UW System. The option to transfer to different campuses in the state to continue my education was something that appealed to me.

What surprised you the most about the university when you arrived on campus?

UW-Stevens Point at Wausau is far from the largest campus I have been on. However, its size does not correlate with the quality of education given or the quality of professors teaching. Professors can focus more on their students, which leads to more students being successful. I was also pleasantly surprised to see UW-Stevens Point at Wausau is a culturally diverse campus. It serves as a melting pot in central Wisconsin and attracts people from all walks of life.

How or when did you discover your purpose? How did UW-Stevens Point at Wausau faculty/staff help?

I have always dreamt of pursuing a career in the criminal justice. I was motivated to apply to UW-Stevens Point because last year UW-Stevens Point at Wausau was offering no application fee for new students. It didn’t become apparent to me that my dreams were within my reach until I received my acceptance letter from the office of admissions. That letter was my second chance.

Why did you choose your program/major?

I chose pre-law as my major because I want to work in the criminal justice field. I have always wanted to be the person that people could call for help. I hope to use my skills and education to do just that.

Who has been your favorite professor or staff member?

I have two favorite professors. Geology Professor Lisa Siewert is awesome! She makes learning enjoyable. Her amusing antics and dramatic expressions make the material so much easier to learn and retain. English Professor Jill Stukenberg teaches creative writing. Her class is a lot of fun. Jill is brilliant, highly creative but also practical and approachable. Both professors have had a positive impact on my education and have given me the knowledge and tools I need for the future.

In addition to being a college student, what takes up your free time?

I have been building tiny homes in Madison for the homeless. One day, I hope to work with local government officials to bring the tiny homes idea to Wausau. I also dedicate time to exercise and yoga to ensure a healthy balance of body and mind. Additionally, I look forward to spending time working on behalf of the students as the newly elected Student Government president.

What do you plan to do after attending UW-Stevens Point at Wausau?

I plan to further my education and pursue a bachelor’s degree in political science.

To make the most of their college experience, what advice would you have for incoming students?

Don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone and stand out. Get involved with your school, whether that be in clubs, community outreaches or employment on campus. College is not only about gaining an education but discovering who you are.
