All remaining Concerts on the Square and Wausau’s annual Beer and Bacon Fest are canceled this year due to coronavirus concerns, event planners announced this weekend.

The Beer and Bacon Fest, held each September at the Isle of Ferns Park in Wausau, features beer, bacon-based food and live music. This year’s event will be postponed until Sept. 18 2021.

Wausau Events, which organizes the festival each year, cited a recent surge in COVID-19 cases in the area and ongoing uncertainty over the pandemic’s future course.

“Our goal at Wausau Events has always been to deliver the best possible event experiences for our fans and sponsors. Know that we are more driven than ever to deliver on this mission,” said officials in a press release on Saturday.

During the initial Safer at Home period, Wausau Events canceled Concerts on the Square through July 31 but held off on making a decision for August concerts. Concerts on the Square are held Wednesday nights throughout the summer months and draw thousands of people to downtown Wausau.

But now, the organization has canceled all events through August.

The next major event being planned is Harvest Fest on Oct. 3.
