A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for portions of central Wisconsin including Wausau and Marathon County until 11 p.m. Tuesday.

The watch comes after torrential rainfall swept through the area during earlier storms, dumping about 2 inches of rain in the Wausau area.

Thunderstorms are expected at times through late this evening Tuesday. Some of these storms could become strong to severe.

The best chance of severe storms is expected over central Wisconsin.

The main threats would be damaging winds and hail. Very heavy rainfall will be possible with any storms that form.

Expect a low of 57 degrees overnight. On Wednesday, forecasters say there is a chance of rainfall once again with a high of 73 degrees.

Skies will clear and temperatures will climb back into the 80s on Thursday.
