Ascension at Home is offering comprehensive training for people who are interested in becoming hospice volunteers. Volunteers, who help people with terminal illness live each day comfortably and with dignity and peace, are assigned according to their individual interests and abilities, as well as availability.

Volunteers are needed to staff the front desk at the House of the Dove in Marshfield. In addition, there is a growing need for patient support volunteers in the service area, which includes the surrounding communities of Wisconsin Rapids, Marshfield (from north to Thorp and south to Coloma/Hancock), Wausau and Stevens Point, including Athens, Mosinee and Plainfield areas.

Ascension at Home also is seeking seamstresses who can sew Memory Bears in the Wisconsin Rapids, Marshfield, Wausau and Stevens Point areas, and veteran volunteers who would visit patients who are veterans and/or assist with veteran pinning ceremonies.

Training sessions will be in early fall (September/October) and will be a four-week series of two-hour sessions each week.

These sessions, which are free with materials provided, will be small group gatherings to allow for safe social distancing and masks will be provided. Registration is required. For more information call Dawn Freedlund at 800-397-4216 or email [email protected].
