The 2020 real estate assessment roll in Wausau will be open for public inspection for two weeks beginning July 29, according to city officials.

The “Open Book” refers to a period of time when the completed assessment roll is open for examination. Open Book offers residents an opportunity to discuss property values with the assessor and provide reason for changing the value, if appropriate, according to the Department of Revenue.

Public inspection is available from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the assessment department at City Hall, 407 Grant St., from July 29 through Aug. 12. Taxpayers are required to schedule an appointment by calling 715-261-6600 or visiting http://www.ci.wausau.wi.us/Departments/Assessment.aspx.

City officials are requesting that all inquiries regarding 2020 assessments be made during the public inspection period, which precedes the closing and certification of the assessment roll.

Instructional materials on appealing your assessment will be available at the Open Book, where the assessor is allowed to make any changes that are necessary to perfect the assessment roll.

When Open Book ends, any changes to the assessment roll, your property value, requires formal process in front of the Board of Review or circuit court.
