A now-shuttered tavern that was the site of an alleged arson in 2016 is again the subject of a police investigation, following an overnight fire.

In a Facebook post, the Wausau Police Department on July 28 announced the investigation at the former Cabaret, 204 E. Rib Mountain Dr., Wausau.

Fire crews were called at about 4 a.m. to the building for a report of a fire, which caused minor damage. Police are now asking the public for any information about the fire, which investigators say was intentionally set.

This is the second apparent arson at the building, which is now for sale. Two people – Robert F. Hernandez, and Tony Patterson, Jr., both of Wausau, are facing charges connected to a fire reported in the early morning hours of Aug. 4, 2016 at Cabaret. The blaze was reported at about 5 a.m. and caused significant damage to the tavern, according to police.

Their cases have not yet concluded.

Anyone with information about the fire this morning is urged to call Detective Max Laporte at 715-261-7854 or call Marathon County Crime Stoppers at 877-409-8777. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
