WAUSAU – Ironbull has organized a community charity float on the Wisconsin River in Wausau on Aug. 22.
Participants float down a 1.5-mile stretch of the river on an innertube, kayak, paddleboard or canoe, entering the water at Gilbert Park and floating just south of Riverlife Park, exiting the water near WOW.
“After attending a similar event this summer, I was surprised with the Wisconsin River slicing through downtown Wausau, we didn’t already have such an event,” said event coordinator, Bill Bertram. Bertram is also the president of the Wausau & Marathon County Parks and Recreation Foundation.
The first 50 online registrants receive a free innertube and the first 250 participants also receive a bandana. Air will be available at Gilbert Park to inflate the tubes.
Lifeguards will be stationed along the route. A life jacket is also required to be on board for all participants and worn by all participants younger than age 18.
Both onsite or pre-registration costs $20 per adult or $5 per child with the option of purchasing a tube for an additional $10 (limited quantity available onsite – guarantee yours by pre-registering).
Net proceeds will be split with the Woodson YMCA and Wausau & Marathon County Parks and Recreation Foundation.
Participants are encouraged to abide by current COVID-19 guidelines, including wearing a face mask and social distance.
