An online reporting tool for Marathon County residents to report concerns about violations of Gov. Tony Evers’ order requiring face coverings in some public areas is now online.
Complaints are reviewed by the Marathon County Health Department here.
Health officials say their primary intent is to educate the public on the need for and benefit to wearing a face covering to control or prevent the spread of COVID-19. The goal, officials say, is voluntary compliance.
“Face coverings, social distancing, hand washing, and isolation/quarantining are proven strategies to prevent or slow the spread,” said Marathon County Public Health Information Officer Judy Burrows. “These actions can help get kids back to school, keep adults working, and businesses open.”
Burrows cautioned residents not to call police or 911 to report violations of the face covering order.
“We will continue to work with local establishments to adopt practices that comply with the face covering order,” Burrows said.
The order went into effect Aug. 1 and prompted strong reaction from residents both in support and opposition.
But a bipartisan majority of registered voters nationwide strongly support state mandates that would fine or jail people who fail to wear a mask in public, a POLITICO/Morning Consult poll finds.
The poll found 53 percent of registered voters polled strongly favor statewide mask mandates, POLITICO reports.When adding voters who somewhat support mask mandates, the overall support number rises to 72 percent.
The POLITICO/Morning Consult poll reched 1,991 registered voters nationwide. The poll’s margin of error is plus-or-minus 2 percentage points.
