WESTON – In an effort to care for children in the ever-changing landscape of the COVID-19 pandemic, the YMCA will offer a new school-age child care program at YMCA Camp Sturtevant so kids can remain active, learning and engaged when they’re out of school.

YMCA Camp Sturtevant, 2701 Northwestern Ave., Wausau, will host the YMCA’s 2020-2021 School Age Child Care program for kids ages 5 to 12 from 6:30 a.m.- 6 p.m. Camp counselors will lead activities in small age-based cohorts. Staff members and students will follow distancing and mask-wearing guidelines and recommended public health precautions.

The program features:

  • Virtual learning sessions with DPI-licensed teachers on site
  • A daily schedule that includes academic learning, physical activity and outdoor time
  • Breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack

“As an organization dedicated to youth development, we know how important it is that our children have a safe and enriching environment for learning, both in and out of school,” said Sally Glennon, vice president of child care services, in a news release. “We are pleased to be able to provide this space to the children in our community, allowing their invaluable social, emotional, physical and academic growth to continue despite the changes they’ve endured in the pandemic.”

Financial assistance is available.
