Members of the Marathon County Dive Team on Sunday recovered the body of a 21-year-old missing boater, who drowned Friday in Lake DuBay.

The victim has been identified as Jesse T. Buchanan, of Marshfield.

Buchanan was missing since 6:23 p.m. Friday. Witnesses say he jumped off a boat and did not resurface.

The Marathon County Sheriff’s Department Dive Team and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Conservation Wardens conducted a joint search of Lake DuBay north of the Seagull Drive boat landing starting on Friday evening. The search continued during daylight hours on Saturday, August 22, and was completed Sunday just before 3 p.m., according to the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department.

The search was conducted using the Marathon County Dive Team towed side scan sonar, imaging sonar, and the Wisconsin DNR hull mounted side scan sonar. A number of underwater objects potentially being the victim were detected and investigated during the search, police said.

Conservation wardens discovered Buchanan’s body and divers recovered his remains.

This incident is being investigated by both the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department.
