Information from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department for the week ending Aug. 24, 2020:

A 48-year-old Tomahawk man was arrested Monday afternoon on a warrant charge. A check showed he was wanted by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections for violating the terms of his probation.

A 61 year old Tomahawk man was injured after a single vehicle crash Monday evening on County Rd A near Bill France Way in the Town of Bradley. The investigating deputy will refer charges to the Lincoln County District Attorney for a felony fourth offense of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

A Tomahawk couple reported they were almost the victims of fraud last week. A resident of the Town of Bradley was contacted by someone claiming to be able to help speed up the man’s computer for $199. The victim allowed the caller to have access to his computer. A short time later the scammer sent fake screen shots to the victim reporting to show the victims bank accounts with a zero balance. The scammer told the victim he would return some of the money and would not take any further if the victim sent gift cards. The victim’s wife called the sheriff’s office after her husband left for the bank to get money needed for the gift cards. Dispatch center staff contacted two banks in Tomahawk who were able to secure the couples accounts. The male victim was contacted by a Tomahawk Police Officer when he arrived at a bank. Bank staff assured the man his finances were fine and he was being scammed. The victims did not lose any money in this case.

An 80 year old Tomahawk man became the victim of the Social Security Scam Friday afternoon.  The victim received a call from someone claiming to be from the Social Security Office.  The caller requested the victim’s SSN #.  After the number was giving to the caller, the caller advised the victim to obtain $3,500 in Walmart gift cards or he would be thrown in jail.  The victim obtained the cards returned the call and gave the card numbers to the scammer.  The call originated from 213-529-9367.

A Tomahawk woman struck and killed a bear on County Rd O near West Bilby Rd Tuesday afternoon.

A semi struck a bear Wednesday afternoon on US Hwy 51 just north of County Rd A in the Town of Bradley, that animal was also killed.

Another was bear struck and killed on USH 51 near County Rd J on Friday evening. 

Only one person reported striking a deer last week.
