UPDATE, 7:30 a.m.: One person is dead after a crash west of Wausau in the town of Marathon, sheriff’s officials said, in a news release posted only on social media.

The Marathon County Sheriff’s Department said deputies responded at about 8:15 p.m. Monday to the intersection of County Road N and County Road B for a report of a crash. One person died at the scene.

A second victim was transported to a local hospital for injuries that do not appear life-threatening, police said.

Assisting the Marathon County Sheriff’s Office was the Wisconsin State Patrol, Marathon Fire and First Responders, SAFRER EMS, and the Marathon County Medical Examiner’s Office. The crash is being investigated by the Marathon County Crash Reconstruction Team, and is ongoing.

No names have been released.


At least two people were injured Monday in a crash west of Wausau in Marathon County.

The crash was reported at about 8:15 p.m. on County Hwy. N at County Hwy. B. First responders from Marathon were called to the scene.

Two vehicles were involved in the crash, though few details were immediately available. One person was trapped inside the vehicle, according to emergency scanner traffic. A second person was also injured.
