WAUSAU – The Badger State Games’ Winter Games celebrates 33 years of Olympic-style sporting events in 2022, allowing athletes of all ages and abilities to compete for the gold. Those who medal with a gold, silver or bronze are eligible to compete in the State Games of America taking place in Iowa 2022.

This weekend’s events

Nordic Skiing at Nine Mile Forest

Roughly 400 Nordic skiers will compete, including youth and high school teams, adults and adaptive divisions. Races will include freestyle and classic formats and distances will range from 1-2k (ages 9 and younger) up to 43k (ages 18 and older). Spectators are encouraged to make some noise to cheer on their teams! On-site registration is available. More details available at www.badgerstategames.org.

Curling at Wausau Curling Club

Thirty to 40 teams will compete at the Wausau Curling Club. The competition has five divisions: juniors, men’s, women’s, open adults and open stick, which includes wheelchairs. The Wausau Curling Club houses eight sheets of ice and offers food and drink.

Spectators also can enjoy front row theater seating to cheer their teams on.  Medals will be awarded Sunday afternoon.

Figure Skating at Mosinee Recreation Center

More than 300 competitors will compete beginning Jan. 27. The competition features solo, duets and teams. This is a sanctioned (USFS) United States Figure Skating competition and a fan favorite.

When: Jan. 28 through Jan. 30

Where: Mosinee Recreation Center, 701 11th St., Mosinee
