WAUSAU – Wausau West got the best of crosstown rival Wausau East in a girls-boys basketball doubleheader on Friday night at East High School.

The West girls won 77-52 and the boys squeezed out a 65-61 victory.

The Wausau West girls improve to 15-3 overall and remain undefeated in the Wisconsin Valley Conference at 9-0. East falls to 3-12 and 0-7 in the conference.

Both teams return to action Monday with home games. West will play Lakeland in nonconference action and East will take on Stevens Point in a Wisconsin Valley Conference contest.

The West boys are now 9-8 and 4-4 in the Valley, while East falls to 4-12 and 1-5 in the WVC.

Wausau West hosts Medford for a nonconference game Tuesday, and East will be off until Friday, Feb. 4, when it plays at home against first-place Marshfield.
