A wind chill advisory will take effect overnight as dangerously cold wind chills are predicted for Wausau and Marathon County.

Expect wind chills of 20 to 30 below zero Wednesday night into Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. The wind chill advisory is in effect from midnight to 9 a.m. Thursday.

Wind chills in the expected range could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Weather officials urge caution while traveling outdoors. Wear appropriate clothing including a hat and gloves.

The actual overnight temperature will reach about -8 degrees. On Thursday, expect party to mostly cloudy skies with a high of 8 degrees. Temperatures should warm to the mid-20s over the weekend.
