A 40-year-old Wausau man is accused of sexually assaulting a woman who was assisting him and his family in refugee resettlement, according to a Wausau Police Department news release.
The man, Matiullah Matie, allegedly assaulted the woman on Wednesday, Feb. 2 in a vehicle on Wausau’s northeast side.
Matie was arrested Monday and transported to the Marathon County Jail before being released on a signature bond, police said. Investigators are recommending a charge of fourth-degree sexual assault, a misdemeanor, to the Marathon County District Attorney’s office.
The criminal investigation is ongoing and formal charges have not yet been filed. Additional details will be provided in the criminal complaint.
