Abby M. Dibbs, 35, of Cross Plains, was convicted Feb. 7 on one count of sexual assault of student by school staff, a class H felony, in Columbia County Court. A second count was dismissed but read into the record.

A former English teacher, Dibbs was accused in May of having an improper relationship with a 17-year-old student. Police say Dibbs admitted the boy came to her home on two separate occasions one week prior. The district released a statement shortly after the allegations came to light that stated Dibbs was no longer employed there.

The student told investigators he had sex with Dibbs and was in love with her, according to the criminal complaint. Dibbs told detectives she and the boy discussed their feelings for one another and that “lines had been crossed,” the complaint said.

Columbia County Circuit Judge Andrew Voigt sentenced Dibbs and ordered her to comply with sex offender treatment and the sex offender registry. She must be supervised by another adult to have contact with minors, court records show.
