Dale L. Romanowski
Dale L. Romanowski, 71, died Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at Froedtert Hospital, Milwaukee.
He was born January 18, 1951 in Wausau, son of the late John and Alice (Hower) Romanowski.
Dale started working for Marathon Electric (now Regal Beloit) at 19 years old, advancing his entire career at the company until retirement.
He was passionate about canoeing and his time spent in the Canadian back country with family and friends. His creativity was endless including wood and metal working skills allowing him to create beautiful knifes, bows and leather crafts. He also enjoyed hunting, traveling and family gatherings.
Survivors include his children, Scott (Carrie) Romanowski, Heather (Rob) Collins and Lori Romanowski; grandchildren, Shane Romanowski, Kayleigh Gahagan, Hazel, Mabel and Emmett Collins, Isabelle and Ella Krahn; siblings, Lois (Kevin) Long, Chuck (Beverly) Romanowski, Lance (Tracey) Romanowski, Gary (Shari) Romanowski, Jack (Lois) Romanowski and Pete (Peggy) Romanowski; and many nieces and nephews including Matthew (Samantha) Groshek.
Dale will also be greatly missed by many lifelong friends made from work and volunteering. He loved being a part of the community including volunteering with Kiwanis and Boys and Girls Club.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Judy (John) Radloff.
Memorial services will be Noon on Friday, February 25, 2022 at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth St., Wausau. Visitation will be Thursday, February 24, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth St., Wausau, and again on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services.

Elaine G. Kellnhauser
Elaine G. Kellnhauser, 93, Wausau, died Saturday February 19, 2022, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
She was born November 7, 1928, in Little Chute, daughter of the late Wilbert and Mary (Diedrich) DeBroux. On February 12, 1949, she married Henry “Kelly” Kellnhauser at St. James Catholic Church, Wausau. He preceded her in death November 16, 1995.
Elaine had been employed at NTC for 25 years as an Administrative Assistant. She enjoyed spirited conversations on politics and was very knowledgeable on the subject.
Elaine was a Charter Member of St. Anne Catholic Church, and her love of Jesus was a guiding light in her life. She loved the mission of St. Jude Children’s Hospital and the Christmas in July Charity. Spending time with family was a top priority for Elaine. The time spent up north swimming and pontooning at the cottage was special time for her. Elaine enjoyed reading, playing cards with friends and traveling. After being a mother and working for 25 years, she loved being at home.
Survivors include two sons, Mike Kellnhauser, Wausau, Tom (Daniele) Kellnhauser, Iola; two daughters, Susan Kellnhauser, Wausau, Kristen (Greg) Cemke, Rothschild; grandchildren, Christopher (Erin) Crawford and their six children, Lisa Cemke, Sara (Matt) Melk and their three children, Colton Kellnhauser, Auston Kellnhauser, Nick (Rachel) Klepps, Rachel Klepps; special friend to the family and caregiver, David Glodoski; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Jeanette; siblings, Harold (Florence) DeBroux, Robert (Millie) DeBroux, Dolores (Jack) Baerenwald.
Visitation for the public will be held on Thursday February 24, 2022 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church, Wausau. A Private Funeral Mass and burial at Restlawn Memorial Park will be held for the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Anne Parish, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Christmas in July Charity.
The family wishes to thank the Palliative Care Unit at Aspirus Hospital for their compassion and over and above care for our mother and her family. They are truly Angels on earth.
Fred D. Henkelman
Fred D. Henkelman, 89, died peacefully at home on Thursday, February 17th, 2022.
He was born on July 27, 1932 in the Town of Hewitt, son of the late Fred Sr & Margaret (Raasch) Henkelman. On July 10, 1954 he married Gerda Grosskurth at Peace Lutheran Church in Antigo. She preceded him in death on September 23, 2008.
Fred owned and operated the family dairy farm in the Town of Hewitt. He also did mason work, roofing, logging, and cut and hauled firewood. Fred was a volunteer on the Town of Hewitt Fire Department for over 25 years, served as a town supervisor and as the town chairman. He was also very active at church serving on the church council, and managed the softball and dartball teams. He enjoyed playing and watching baseball, polka dancing, pool league, trapping, cutting boughs, making wreaths, playing BINGO, and hunting, especially out West.
Survivors include his children: Dennis Henkelman, California, Tom (Marka) Henkelman, Merrill, Terry Caldwell, Virginia, and Faye DeLosh, Merrill; eight grandchildren: Jaime (TJ) Gooden, Dana (Eric) Woller, Lauren Henkelman (Matt Clawson), Cheyenne Caldwell, Katelynn DeLosh, Kurtis DeLosh, Cole Henkelman (Ally Geurink) and Wyatt Howard; six great-grandchildren: Allison, Caleb, Jayden, Evan, Nora, and Zach; brother-in-law Karl (Janice) Grosskurth, sisters-in-laws Thea Lee and Rosemary Grosskurth, along with cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Besides his parents and wife, Gerda, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, brother Lawrence (Marianne) Henkelman, sister Esther Dittmar, sister-in-law Irmgard (Ervin) Bunge, brothers-in-law Ernest, Werner, and Siegfried Grosskurth.
Visitation will be from 9AM-11:30AM on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at Calvary Lutheran Church, Town of Pine River. Services will begin at 11:30AM. The Reverend Ted Gulhaugen will officiate.

Elizabeth I. Jauernig
Elizabeth (“Betty”) Irene Kraege Higby Jauernig, 91, died February 5, 2022, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
She was born January 24, 1931 in Wausau, WI, daughter of the late Fred and Erna (Stubbe) Kraege.
Recently she shared her three biggest accomplishments: having eight kids, becoming a private pilot, and growing up on a farm milking cows. Although Betty was required to leave formal education after the 8th grade based on the societal norms at that time, she never lost her love and thirst for knowledge. She obtained her GED, Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate, and took numerous classes at the local college. Her favorite classes were Creative Writing and Archaeology. She also attended classes at Chautauqua Institution in New York. Her collection of non-fiction educational material was first class and she never stopped reading and learning. During her life she corresponded with many interesting people, including Buckskin Bill from Idaho-one of the last “great mountain men”, and Dian Fossey in Africa (gorilla expert and author of “Gorillas in the Mist”). Her name has been inscribed in her honor and memory at the Rhinebeck Aerodrome Museum, New York.
Betty had an adventurous spirit, especially for a female in her era. She started taking flying lessons at age 14 in a J3 Cub, soloed at age 16, and obtained her private pilot’s license at age 17. She co-owned an Aeronca Champ with her brothers and flew it from the family farm fields in Ringle. She was also a licensed motorcycle operator, first learning on a Harley Davidson, and by age 18 owned an Indian Arrow. Many years after her last child had left home Betty flew to Minnesota to take a one-hour lesson flying a 747 in a simulator at the Northwest Aerospace Training Center. She switched to arm chair adventures only after her health prevented her from traveling. Betty loved doing crossword puzzles, and playing Sheepshead, Rummy, and Solitaire.
Her first job at age 14 was as a live-in nanny and housekeeper at the Westgate family home in Wausau, WI. She adored the child, Margaret (“Peggy”), and always spoke fondly of both the child and the family throughout her life. She said it was the best job she ever had. Some of her other favorite jobs were working as a CNA with the wonderful nuns at Bell Tower, Merrill, WI; working for the VNA, one of the best organizations ever created according to Betty; and working as a security guard at J. I. Case and at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum–a world class museum.
Survivors include seven children: Virginia (Warren) Heckert, Hatley; Arlinda Warren, Mosinee; Sandy Kraege, Jacksonville, Florida; Alan (Sylvia) Higby, Kent, Washington; Stanley (Dvonna) Higby, Baraboo; Eve (Dallas) Lee, Oxford, Georgia; Annette Higby, Bonsall, California; one brother: Albert (Ardyth) Kraege, Stevens Point; one sister-in-law: Annabelle (late Rudy) Kraege, Ringle. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Amber (Ric Dinh) Heckert; Todd Heckert; Crystal Heckert; Coral (Bryan) Nelson; Jeana Warren; Katelyn Higby; Ashley Higby; step-grandchildren; great grandchildren; great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her son, Patrick (late Marge) Higby; her sister, Adeline (late Rufus) Rodemeier; two brothers: Walter Kraege and Rudy (Annabelle) Kraege; a grandson Matthew Warren; a granddaughter Jessie Lee; and a stepson Edward (late Valerie) Higby.
The family wishes to thank all those who helped care for Mom including Oak Heights and Care Partners in Schofield and the nurses and doctors at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, March 19, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at John J. Buettgen Funeral Home, 948 Grand Avenue, Schofield, WI 54476.
In lieu of flowers, Mom’s two favorite charities were Wisconsin Public Radio and PBS Wisconsin Friends.

Thad J. Teige
Thad passed away very suddenly , at his home, on January 25, 2022.
Thad was born on April 12, 1971, in Wausau. He was baptized in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Wausau. Thad was confirmed in Saron Lutheran in MN . He graduated from Osseo Senior High (MN) in 1989.
Thad served in the US Army from 1991-2004. Both Active and Reserves. He served 11 months in Panama during Desert Storm . Thad attended both NHCC and Augsburg University after being honorably discharged . Thad worked many years in the roofing industry , especially during hurricanes Frances, Jeanne, and Wilma in FL in 2004-2005.
After relocating back to WI he had been employed by Kraft, and then Merrill Steel . Thad loved playing softball and basketball with his two kids. He loved hunting, fishing and cooking. His biscuits and gravy were the best. Thad’s sense of humor was second to none. His one-liners were hilarious.
Survivors include his daughter, Madison, and son, Austin J (AJ), Thad’s brothers, Troy (Rachelle), Brett (Nicole) , and Todd, Thad’s niece, Brittany, nephews Tucker, Treyton, Tanner, Trey, Tyler, and Blake, Thad’s parents, Diane and stepdad, Lon, and father, Gerald (Sharon).
Thad was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lowell Amann, Lois and Ray Hildebrandt, and Evie and Bono Teige.
A memorial is being planned for a later date , with burial , with military honors , in the Trinity Cemetery, and beneath Thad’s tree stand in the Northwoods. Thad Jase , we grieve for losing you, we celebrate your life, we miss you, and we love you forever . RIP.
