The Wausau West team 1 won the boys high school state curling championship over the weekend at the Wausau Curling Center.

The West boys defeated Portage in the finals, after having out-curled the Wausau boys team 2 in the semi-finals.

The Wausau West girls team 1 finished runner up to Lodi in the girls state championship match. The team defeated Lodi in the semifinals before losing to Poynette in the final match.

The championship West team included Wes Wendling, Chris Kirsch, Jacob Hamann, and Carson Kirsch.

The West girls team included Amelia Hintz, Kaydee Rennie, Ella Wendling, and Madyson Olson.

On the West 2 boys team were Nolan O’Keefe, Ozkar Schroeder, Evan Scheidler, and Mason Voigt.

Sixteen girls teams and 16 boys teams competed in round robin play on Friday and Saturday morning, before advancing to the semi-final and final rounds on Saturday afternoon.

Wausau has hosted the state high school curling championships for many years.
