Wausau Pilot & Review

For the April 5, 2022, Spring Election, absentee ballots were mailed out to City of Wausau voters with new instructions. Absentee ballots for the Spring Election can only be returned either:

  1. By mailing the ballot through the United States Postal Service, or
  2. Returning the ballot to the Clerk’s Office inside of City Hall

Following the Waukesha County Circuit Court’s order declaring the Wisconsin Elections Commissions 2020 guidance invalid, the City of Wausau will not be utilizing its Absentee Ballot Drop Box for the April 5 election. The drop box is locked and has a sign on it informing voters of the acceptable ways to return their ballot. There is also a sign on the silver utility payment box informing voters that they cannot return their ballot through that box.

The court order also states that state law provides that voters must personally mail or deliver his or her own absentee ballot. City of Wausau voters should return only their ballot to City Hall.

There is a yellow sticker on the back of the absentee ballots instructing voters of these changes. An instruction sheet inside the mailing, directs voters on how to complete their absentee ballots, so they are counted.

Electors can still request absentee ballots online at www.myvote.wi.gov, by mail, email, or fax until March 31st at 5:00pm. Early in person absentee voting is available Tuesday, March 22, 2022, through Friday, April 1, 2022 at the Clerk’s office at City Hall, 407 Grant Street, Wausau, between 8:00am – 4:30pm.
