UPDATED (2:39 p.m.) – A 22-year-old Eagle River woman is dead after a two-vehicle crash that shut down a portion of Hwy. 8 for more than six hours Tuesday.
The crash was reported at about 7:45 a.m. Tuesday west of Hwy. 51 at McCord Road near the town of McCord. The Wisconsin State Patrol says the victim was driving a black Chevrolet Malibu eastbound on Hwy. 8 when she crossed the center line into the path of a westbound semi tractor trailer.
The woman died at the scene. The driver of the semi, a 61-year-old Illinois man, was not injured.
Names are being withheld pending notification of relatives.

A portion of Hwy. 8 remains closed as of 9:20 a.m. Tuesday, nearly two hours after a crash with reported injuries.
The crash was called in at about 7:30 a.m. in Lincoln County on Hwy. 8 at McCord Road, west of Hwy. 51. Crews from several area agencies responded to the crash scene and all lanes are blocked. Initial reports suggest a semi tractor trailer and passenger vehicle are involved in the crash. Dispatchers report roads are slick in the area.
A first responder at the scene reported CPR was in progress as of 7:50 a.m. but there’s no word yet on the number of people injured.
Drivers are being rerouted for both westbound and eastbound traffic.
