Spirits 101: Building a featured cocktail, by Dan Weber
This week in Spirits 101, we are building a proper traditional cocktail.
Our featured cocktail is going to be a prohibition classic – the Bee’s Knees! Cocktail recipes during prohibition were usually heavy handed with the citrus and syrups to cover up the less-than-ideal alcohol being made illegally in basements. Once prohibition was lifted and people could start crafting high quality spirits, the boom of the craft cocktail began!
A typical prohibition cocktail build would include the spirit, citrus juice, syrup, and bitters.
Here we are featuring the Classic Bee’s Knees and that build goes as follows:
- 2 oz. Timekeeper Gin
- 1 oz. Lemon
- 3/4 oz. Honey syrup
- Heavy hand of lavender bitters
Thanks for joining us on spirits 101. Cheers!
