Wausau Pilot & Review

Crews from multiple agencies responded Friday to a report of a major barn fire west of Wausau, according to emergency scanner traffic.

The initial call came in at about 1:45 p.m. March 15 on Century Road near Spencer. The first crews to arrive reported that the barn is engulfed in flames, with the blaze spreading to a nearby shed and into the grass.

Unclear is whether any people or animals are inside the barn, in which a combine was being stored. The Salvation Army has also been paged to the scene.

Dry, windy conditions have resulted in very high fire danger throughout much of the state including Marathon County.

This is a developing story.

The Pilot often relies on reports from police officials in control of a crime, fire or crash scene during a breaking news event. While these initial reports are valuable to readers, they also can be incomplete and even inaccurate. We let readers know what we can and can’t confirm, as well as when and how we received our information. Then we work to aggressively gather a wider range of perspectives and to verify the information through public records, interviews, photos and videos, all of which are verified before publishing.
