Wausau Pilot & Review

MERRILL – The Wausau West softball team smashed out 20 hits and took advantage of eight errors as it finished off a 20-10 win over Merrill on Tuesday at the Merrill Recreation Center Field.

The Warriors led 10-1 after a seven-run fourth inning and two more in the fifth. Merrill retaliated with nine runs in the bottom of the fifth to briefly tie the game, only to see West score once in the sixth and nine more times in the seventh to pull away.

Autumn Hughes had three hits and three RBI, Addie Heil also drove in three and Taylor Liebelt had two doubles and two RBI in the victory for West (6-4, 1-3 Wisconsin Valley Conference).

Sophie Wendorf, Olivia Pierce and Mady Graap all drove in two for Merrill (3-6, 1-3 WVC).

Wausau West hosts Marathon for a nonconference game on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
