A long-awaited downtown Wausau bar and eatery has shut down, at least temporarily, less than three months after the restaurant opened.
Crostini Wine Bar, 307 N. Third Street, was originally slated to open in early December, but construction delays forced the unique eatery to push back its opening several times. The restaurant specialized in wine, craft beers, “small plate” appetizers, flatbreads, wraps and salads.
The business, located at the site of the former St. Clare’s Menswear, underwent a massive renovation before opening in June. Today, two signs in the window advise customers the wine bar is “temporarily closed.”
Online court records show Crostini owner Troy Davis has a string of unpaid financial obligations. Davis and his company, Third Peak Hospitality LLC, owe property manager Compass Properties more than $192,000 in a contract lawsuit filed July 12 in Marathon County Circuit Court. Davis also owes the Department of Revenue more than $14,000 in delinquent back taxes, resulting in a tax lein, court records show.
Davis did not respond to phone calls and emails requesting comment for this story.
