New details have been released regarding an officer involved shooting That happened late Thursday in western Marathon County. .

According to the Department of Criminal Investigation, a Colby-Abbotsford Police officer responded to the Home Motel in Abbotsford as part of an investigation and made contact with a “person of interest” outside who then fled in a vehicle, striking the officer.

The officer fired shots at the vehicle and struck the suspect, officials said.

The officer was not injured.

Officers with the Clark County Sheriff’s Department, Colby-Abbotsford Police Department, and Marathon County Sheriff’s Department pursued the vehicle. The suspect eventually stopped on Hwy. 29 and ran before being arrested, officials said.

Life-saving measures were immediately taken and the suspect was transported by helicopter to an area hospital. The suspect, whose name has not been released, is expected to survive.

The Colby-Abbotsford officer has been placed on administrative assignment, per department policy.

DCI is spearheading the investigation, and all evidence and investigative reports will be turned over to the Marathon County District Attorney’s office.
