Timothy J. Dobeck

Timothy J. Dobeck, 87, Wausau passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2024 under the care of hospice at assisted living. 

He was born January 2, 1937 in Wausau, son of the late Phillip and Helen (Pryga) Dobeck.  On December 26, 1964 he married Marcella R. Haas (deceased) at St. Therese Catholic Church, Rothschild.  

Tim graduated from D.C. Everest High School and North Central Technical Institute.  He worked in the automotive industry as an accountant for many years and finished his career working at Green Bay Packaging.  He served in the Army Reserve for three years.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.  His hobbies included being a lifelong sports fan and he especially liked the Packers, the Brewers and the Woodchucks.   Tim also enjoyed playing cards and listening to polka music.  After he retired, he enjoyed visiting his grandsons and traveling to Florida and Gulf Shores, Mississippi and spending time with friends.

Survivors include his children, Helen (Andrew) Solomon, Wildwood, MO, Vincent Dobeck (Rebecca Skaaland), Ringle, WI and Matthew Dobeck, Venice, FL two grandsons, Scott Solomon and Jonathan Solomon, two step-sisters, Patricia (Tom) Sloan, Watertown, WI and Susan (Don) Abbot, Albuquerque, NM and one half-brother, Michael (Lori) Dobeck, Dacula, GA and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Marcella D. Dobeck and two sisters, Patricia (Raymond) Ireton and Darlene (Charles) Blakely. 

A memorial gathering will take place on Saturday, March 30 from 1 pm to 4 pm in the meeting room at the Holiday Inn Express – Weston, 4210 Barbican Avenue, Weston WI 54476.    

Donations may be made to Wausau Area Mobile Meals. 

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Interim Hospice for the wonderful care they provided for Tim.


Kathleen C. Johnson

Kathleen( Kay) Cecelia Johnson, 89, died March 18th,2024 at Wisconsin Veterans Home at King. Kay was born in Tomahawk, WI on March 20th, 1934 to Anna and Alfred Turgeon. She was a graduate of Tomahawk High School. She met her husband-to-be while roller skating one weekend. Kay then moved to Merrill to work at Carl’s Foodlane. She went on to marry Ed Johnson on June 25th, 1955. She also worked at J.C. Penny in downtown Merrill and then went on to do suit alterations from home. She assisted her husband’s business (Ed’s Shell Service) as bookkeeper.

Kay was a loving and devoted wife and mother to 3 children. Her home and her kids meant the world to her. She enjoyed participating in various card clubs, Christian Women’s Club, and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by two daughters, Barbara(Mike) Ziemke, and Mary(Chris) Frisch. Grandchildren Mitchell(Emily) Ziemke , Colton and Lacey Frisch, and Lindsey(Cadie)Johnson.

Step Grandchildren Mindy(Jake) Strese and Michelle(James) Brown. Great Grandchildren David Ziemke, Owen and Jackson Meehean, and James Jr. and Ellen Brown.

Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin W. Johnson, and son Robert G. Johnson. Parents Alfred and Anna Turgeon along with two brothers and eight sisters also preceded her in death.

Services will be held at Central Wisconsin Veterans Chapel, King WI on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 with Visitation from 12:30 pm until the time of Service by Sister Martha at 1pm.

Alan Stencil

Alan “Al” Stencil, 65, of Edgar, passed away unexpectedly at Rennes Rehab on March 7th, 2024.

Alan was born May 29th, 1958, to Wallace and Arlene (Knoll). He grew up with his parents, brothers and sister on their family farm in Edgar.

Survivors include his father, Wally; brothers, Dale Stencil of Edgar, Brian (Sue) Stencil of Marathon and Kevin Stencil (Patti) of Wausau, niece and nephews, Melissa (Michael) Janke of Marathon, Eric Stencil of Green Bay, Jacob Stencil of Wausau; and great-nephew, Owen Janke.

He is further survived by many friends, including Donny and Chris, Bob and Cheryl, Bill and Fran, and their families. Alan had a big heart and will be missed by many.

Alan was preceded in death by his mother, Arlene and sister, Tammy Hornung.

Alan was a classic car enthusiast and could be found tinkering in his garage or at a car show. He farmed ginseng with his brothers. He was a long-time member of the Poniatowski Daredevils Snowmobile Club. He retired recently from Marathon Cheese after 42 years of service.

The funeral mass will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 6th, 2024, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Edgar. Visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service.

Ruth A. TenHaken

Ruth Anna Herrema TenHaken, born 9/17/1928 in the Township of Ringle, Marathon Country, Wisconsin, daughter of Richard Herrema and Anna Hettinga Herrema passed into the hands of our Lord Jesus Christ on 20 March 2024.

She was married to Victor W. TenHaken for 70 years, until his death in 2017.

She is survived by her children: Randall K. Ten Haken (Babette), Ann Arbor, MI; Vicki Ruth TenHaken (John Meshkin), Holland, MI; John W. Ten Haken (Marcia), Green Bay, WI; and Ronald D. Ten Haken (Terri), Hatley, WI. She enjoyed 12 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Calvin Herrema, St. Petersburg, FL. Her sisters, Gretchen and Betty Jane and brother, Richard, preceded her in death.

Ruth attended Carpenter Grade School, Ringle WI and graduated from Birnamwood High School. She was an office secretary prior to her marriage and lived in Birnamwood, WI for 34 years.

She was a member of New Hope Community Church for over 65 years, during which time she sang in the choir, was Circle secretary and treasurer, Catechism and Sunday School teacher, Friendship Bible Coffee Guide and Spiritual Leader. Ruth was a Cub Scout Den Mother with the Boy Scouts of America for 12 years. She was a member and past secretary of Maple Hills Ladies Golf Club in Wittenberg, and an 11-year trustee of Langlade Memorial Hospital in Antigo, WI, serving as secretary and treasurer to the board and the executive committee.

Upon moving to Florida in the 1990’s, Ruth joined the First Presbyterian Church of Leesburg and later was a founding member of Solid Rock Evangelical Presbyterian Fellowship and later Grace Evangelical Presbyterian Church. In Florida, Ruth continued singing in the church choir and the Highland Lakes chorus and was a volunteer for Angel Flight for several years. Always singing (or humming), Ruth first began singing in church at the age of 4 with her sisters.

She enjoyed bowling, square-dancing, knitting, sewing (at one time Ruth sewed clothes for the entire family, including suits for the boys), reading, playing cards, and, especially, traveling. Ruth moved back to the Wausau, WI area in the fall of 2019, where she once again was able to have an address on the road she grew up on and continue to worship with her church family at New Hope.

The family is grateful for the fantastic care and support of staff at the Wausau Primrose Retirement Community, the Wausau Aspirus Hospice staff, and the prayers and support of the members of New Hope Community Church.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, 20 April 2024 at New Hope Community Church, 229375 County Road J, Wausau, WI 54403. Visitation will take place from 9-11AM at the church, followed by a memorial service at 11 AM. Rev. Tony Lombardo will officiate. Burial will be in Forestville Cemetery, in the town of Easton.

Ruth requested that in lieu of flowers, any memorials or gifts be given to New Hope Community Church, Wausau, WI.
