Wausau Pilot & Review

The country’s largest closeout merchandise retailer will open a Wausau-area location in October, company officials have confirmed.

Ollie’s Bargain Outlet, which has more than 500 stores in 31 states, will open a 35,000-square-foot space next to the VA Clinic, 1105 E. Grand Ave., Rothschild. The stores sell a wide range of goods including housewares, sporting goods, flooring, food and more, according to the organization’s website.

“Ollie’s is America’s largest retailer of closeout merchandise and excess inventory,” Ollie’s information site reads. “Our 521 ‘semi-lovely’ stores sell merchandise of all descriptions and some beyond description.”

Buyers for the retailer search for closeouts, overstocks, package changes, manufacturer refurbished goods and irregulars and include famous name brands. The company also picks up inventory from liquidated companies to sell at their stores.

WSAW-TV has reported for months on speculation that a new store would come to Rothschild, potentially with an additional three chain restaurants in the same strip mall that once was anchored by ShopKo. Construction inside the building has begun with exterior construction expected to begin soon.
