The Samoset Council was recently recognized by the Boy Scouts of America as a top council in the country, ranking second among 270 councils, the organization announced on Friday.
For the third year in a row, the Samoset Council has earned the “Gold” standard of excellence from the Boy Scouts of America.
“Achieving Gold recognition is a remarkable accomplishment,” said Jeff Ottosen, Samoset Council Scout Executive. “It is a tremendous tribute to the more than 1,700 volunteers and more than 4,500 youth involved in Scouting.”
The Boy Scouts of America annually recognizes local Boy Scout councils for achievement in eighteen different areas including: outdoor programs, youth advancement, community service, growth in membership and fiscal stewardship.
The Samoset Council served more than 5,800 youth across north central Wisconsin in 2016, marking the second year in a row of membership growth. Most are members of Scouting programs like Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, STEM Scouts and Exploring. However, more than 1,300 youth participated in outdoor adventure activities through the community outreach efforts of the Samoset Council.
“We’re excited to provide activities and programs for all youth in our communitie,” Ottosen said. “We are happy to partner with many community organizations committed to serving youth.”
