Newman Catholic Schools congratulates Alexander Bollmann on his having earned Offers of Appointment to both the United States Naval Academy (at Annapolis, Maryland) and the United States Military Academy (at West Point, New York.)
Students must be nominated to attend college at a United States service academy by a Member of Congress, the Vice President of the United States, or a Service Branch Secretary. Individual academies make final appointment decisions based on a student’s strong record of academic achievement, leadership, community service, and participation in extracurricular activities in addition to rigorous physical fitness assessments. Admission to the United States service academies is highly competitive. The Naval Academy received approximately 17,000 applications this year, from which it selected 1,200 Midshipmen to comprise its Class of 2021.
The son of Bradford and Julie Bollmann (of Wausau), Alex is currently a senior at Newman Catholic High School, where he is a member of the student council, National Honor Society, and campus ministry as well as a three-sport varsity athlete.
Alex chose to accept his Appointment to the Naval Academy. In late June, he will begin the intensive six-week Plebe Summer indoctrination program before commencing the academic year in August. Upon graduation, service academy graduates are commissioned as officers in the active or reserve components of the military for a minimum of five years.
