Stories of pain and anguish caused by human trafficking pop up every day. Large events such as the U.S. Open golf tournament held this year in suburban Milwaukee area serve as magnets for this problem. Unfortunately, human trafficking is alive and well even here in Central Wisconsin. Now, two local churches are stepping up to raise awareness and fight back against this problem.
Covenant Community Presbyterian Church (CCPC) in Schofield and First Presbyterian Church in Wausau have joined to present an anti-human trafficking event Saturday, June 24, starting at 9 a.m.
The event will be held at CCPC, located at 1806 Weston Avenue, Schofield, in the morning. Participants will learn the details and extent of human trafficking and its many faces that include:
- Sex trafficking
- Labor trafficking
- Be trained to recognize signs of human trafficking in the community
- Practice sharing information and tips with the key businesses in the local community including hotels and gas stations
Participants go out into the community in the afternoon, meeting with staff at local hotels and gas stations. During these meetings, attendees will share information packets to help local businesses identify and report suspicious activity related to human trafficking.
