TOWN OF BEVENT —Police suspect alcohol was a factor in a rollover crash that injured two people, according to the incident report.
The driver in the single-vehicle crash, 31-year-old Tommy Riedner of Hatley, was ejected from his pickup and was airlifted to Aspirus Wausau Hospital with what police described as serious injuries. The crash happened just after 7 p.m. Tuesday on Hwy. Y in the town of Bevent.
A passenger in the vehicle, a 19-year-old Wausau woman, was also injured and was transported via ambulance to a local hospital, police said. No seatbelts were used, according to the report.
The police report, released Friday by the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department, shows Riedner was northbound on Hwy. Y when he veered into the northbound shoulder before crossing into the southbound lane and into the southbound ditch. Riedner’s vehicle rolled onto its roof and struck a stop sign, according to the report.
If toxicology results, which are pending, confirm alcohol was a factor in the crash, Riedner could face charges of operating while intoxicated causing injury. Riedner has so far been cited for driving with a revoked license, operating without insurance, failure to keep a vehicle under control, driving a non registered vehicle, and deviating from a designated lane, according to court records. Riedner has one prior OWI conviction from March 2016.
Riedner’s current condition has not been released.
