WAUSAU — A 51-year-old Schofield man convicted last week of his seventh drunken driving charge will be sentenced in January.
Paul Hillman was arrested at 11:30 a.m. on July 7 on Bus. Hwy. 51 in Rothschild after a bank teller reported Hillman asked for a gun and said he wanted to kill himself, according to court records.
Police pulled HIllman over in his vehicle, where a preliminary breath test showed he had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.13 percent, nearly seven times the 0.02 percent limit imposed on Hillman due to his prior six OWI convictions, according to the criminal compliant. Hillman told police he had only been joking with the bank teller.
Hillman, who is being held in the Marathon County Jail, pleaded guilty to the charge on Thursday in Marathon County Circuit Court. He will be sentenced Jan. 31, after a presentencing investigation is completed.
Hillman is expected to spend between three and 12 1/2 years in prison after he is sentenced. He will be eligible for license reinstatement in three years.
