WESTON, Wis. – Weston village residents will be seeing an increase in their tax bills next year to help the village cover expenses for public safety.
The average residential home in Weston will see a 5.9 percent increase in their village tax bill in 2018. Administrator Daniel Guild says that for an average home in the village, that’s an increase of about $30 to about $1,009.
“This of course does not include the school district, it does not include the county, and it does not include the technical college portions of the property tax,” Guild said.
Additional village fees for refuse collection and stormwater will bring the total average to around $1,215.
Guild says that most of the village’s normal spending will remain in place, and that all of that increased funding is going specifically to pay for increased costs for police and fire protection.
“The village is contributing about half a million dollars more in public safety expenses than in 2017,” Guild said.
The village is not planning any other major capital improvement projects with that increased funding.
