One person is dead following a weekend snowmobile crash in Vilas County.
Shawn Sarver, 43, of Metamoral, Ill. was driving off a marked snowmobile trail when he struck a tree, according to a Vilas County Sheriff’s Department news release. The crash, reported just after 2 p.m. on Saturday, happened in the area of Forest Road and Big Portage Lake Road in the town of Land O’ Lakes.
Sarver died at the scene.
Police say speed appears to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
