TOWN OF DAY — About 25 cows died Wednesday in a blaze that ripped through a dairy barn at a town of Day farm, authorities said.

The blaze broke out just after 2:40 p.m. at the farm on Eau Pleine Road, which is about six miles southeast of Stratford in Marathon County.

Fire crews say about 100 cows escaped the blaze, which was battled by dozens of firefighters called in from seven area departments.

Authorities say the blaze destroyed a barn and silo and may have been sparked by a heater. An official cause of the blaze has not yet been released.

No firefighters were injured.
