Kara Torkelson

WAUSAU – Wausau West High School has received the award of Exemplary Program by the American Association of Teachers of French. Awarded in April, the award recognizes the outstanding quality of the school’s French program.

Wausau West is one of five schools and universities in the nation to receive this award, now in its fourth year, according to the Wausau School District. The program offers advanced courses, including Advanced Placement and dual credit with the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. The program also uses innovative and creative teaching methods, gives standards-based assessments and offers numerous cultural activities beyond the classroom.

Wausau West participates in the AATF National French Contest, Concours Oral, and inducts students into the French National Honor Society.

French teacher Kara Torkelson shows excellent preparation, commitment to professional development and dedication to her work, according to the Wausau School District.

The American Association of Teachers of French, founded in 1927, offers enrichment and support to teachers.
