UPDATE: 8-year-old struck by vehicle in Wausau still critical

WAUSAU — An 8-year-old girl who was struck by a vehicle Wednesday in Wausau remains in critical condition, according to family friends.

The girl is at Marshfield Medical Center, where she is being treated for a skull fracture, collapsed lung and other serious injuries.

Police say the girl darted into the street while walking to Marathon Park to see fireworks on the 4th of July. She was struck at about 9:30 p.m. near the intersection of 17th Avenue and Sherman Street by a 52-year-old Wausau man. The driver of the vehicle was not cited.
