WAUSAU — Police peacefully resolved a situation on Wausau’s east side after a report of a man, possibly armed, making verbal threats.

At least eight squad cars were seen surrounding a home on Park Avenue between 5th and 6th Streets, according to eyewitness reports. Numerous police officers were wearing tactical gear and had guns pointed.

Police say the man has mental health issues and surrendered willingly.

The police activity is being reported just blocks away from a situation Saturday in which officers surrounded a home in the 1000 block of 6th Street. Then, police were responding to reports of shots fired inside the residence and shut down traffic in the area for about 90 minutes before giving the all clear. A suspect, 34-year-old Mathew Robinson, was captured a day later at a Rothschild motel and is facing criminal charges in relation to what police describe as a domestic incident.

The man’s name has not been released.
