WESTFIELD, Ind. — The quest for a national championship for the Wausau Nationals Little League All-Stars Major team team came to an end Tuesday after the team lost a tough battle to Kentucky-Lexington Eastern in regional action by a score of 2-1.

The team of 11- and 12-year-old ballplayers stayed in it until the end, but Kentucky pulled away late in a 2-1 victory on Tuesday. The game was tied at one with Kentucky batting in the bottom of the fifth when they scored one run on a groundout.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Kentucky pitchers struck out 11, while the Wausau Nationals sat down four.

Kentucky knotted the game up at one in the bottom of the fourth inning, when an error scored one run for Kentucky.

Keagen Jirschle toed the rubber for Wausau National LL All Stars Major. He lasted five innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out four and walking zero.

Caden Werth and Taylor Lemanski each collected one hit to lead the Wausau Nationals.
