TOWN OF HAMBURG — The name of an 18-year-old Athens man killed in a weekend rollover crash has been released.

John M. Koehler was driving a 2000 Ford Focus at about 4 when the vehicle veered off the road and struck a culvert before rolling over and landing on its roof, according to the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department.

Koehler was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

A witness to the crash told police he saw the vehicle moments before the crash and did not notice any speeding or reckless driving. Investigators are extracting data from Koehler’s cell phone to determine if he might have been distracted at the time of the crash. Drugs and alcohol use are not suspected.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
