WAUSAU — Police are searching for a suspect in a shooting late Monday on the city’s east side that left one man injured, according to an overnight news release from the Wausau Police Department.

Officers and paramedics were dispatched at 9:10 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 20 to the area of Short Street and N. Third Street in Wausau for a report of a possible shooting. Police name the victim as 35-year-old Charles Rickett, of Wausau, who was shot in the foot and transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Rickett was uncooperative with investigators, according to the release. Investigators believe the shooting was an isolated incident and not a random act of violence.

The alleged shooter, who has not been identified by name, is described as a heavier-set white man wearing a light-colored shirt and dark shorts at the time of the shooting.  He was last seen running northbound from the area.

The handgun used in the shooting has not yet been recovered.
