TOWN OF RUSSELL — A crash snarled traffic for hours Friday as travelers were headed north for the holiday weekend, but no serious injuries were reported.

The crash happened at about 4:40 p.m. Friday on Hwy. 17 north of CTH CC in the town of Russell when a pickup traveling north towing a camper trailer blew a tire, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department. The tire blowout caused the camper to roll over into the roadway and tumble into the ditch. Police say the camper was destroyed in the crash.

The occupants of the vehicle, whose names were not released, refused medical attention at the scene.

Traffic on Hwy. 17 was slowed for more than two and a half hours while the truck was removed. Lincoln County deputies returned Saturday to oversee removal of the camper by a salvage company.

The town of Russell Fire Department assisted with traffic control and town of Russell first responders, Merrill Fire Department ambulance and Oneida County Medic One also responded to the scene.
