MARATHON CITY, Wis. – Utility customers in the village of Marathon City will notice moderate to significant discoloration of water supplied by the utility over the next two days.

The discoloration is caused by increased levels of iron and manganese in the water supply, according to a news release issued Wednesday by Administrator Andy Kurtz. Village officials are working to isolate the cause of the mineral increase and clear the distribution system to restore clarity to the water supply.

The process is expected to take up to 48 hours, Kurtz said.

Kurtz said water in the village is safe for use and consumption, but increased mineral levels could stain clothing.

As the situation is resolved, further updates will be provided.
