TOWN OF HARRISON, Wis. — A massive search for a missing toddler ended tragically early Sunday after the boy’s body was discovered in the Little Wolf River, according to the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Department.

The department announced the end of the search early Sunday on Twitter and said no additional resources were needed. Sheriff Brad Hardel issued a news release hours later that stated the boy had been found by volunteers.

Officials say the 18-month-old boy was last seen in a garage with his family just before 3:30 p.m. Saturday. When the family realized the boy was missing, they called police, who began the search immediately, officials said. Nearly two dozen agencies were involved in the search.

The home is in close proximity to the river, officials said.

Roads were blocked for hours about 10 miles north of the Iola Winter Sports Club near the Little Wolf River.

Hardel expressed his condolences to the family of the boy and thanked searchers in his release.

The boy’s name is being withheld pending notification of his family.
