Jennine Larson

WAUSAU – Dr. Jennine Larson of Surgical Associates was honored as Aspirus Health Foundation’s 2018 Physician Champion at its Partners in Health donor appreciation event on Oct. 4.

The annual event celebrates donors, volunteers and partners who support the foundation’s work to promote health and strengthen the community. Physician and Community Partner Champions are also recognized at the event for their commitment to the health and well-being of people in north central Wisconsin. Larson received the recognition for her outstanding contributions to trauma care at Aspirus.

Larson has provided exceptional care to patients in the Wausau area for more than 10 years, according to a Surgical Associates news release. As a fellowship-trained trauma and critical care surgeon, Larson has always been a vocal advocate in support of rural trauma, a historically underserved demographic. Rather than gravitating toward a major metropolitan area, Larson instead invested her dedication and skill to serve northern Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula with three board certifications: general surgery, critical care and neurocritical care.

In her tenure at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, Larson has established and maintained Aspirus Wausau Hospital as an American College of Surgeons Level II Trauma Center, built a strong private general surgery practice, and leads the Aspirus Wound Clinic. Since the development of the Level II Trauma Center, the hospital has tripled its trauma patient intake.

Beyond her duties at the hospital, Larson also teaches Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) to other trauma and general surgeons, as well as emergency department physicians, and she serves as adjunct faculty at the University of Wisconsin, Madison medical school. In addition, Larson also finds herself in front of the camera, doing PSAs for local TV stations in support of helmet use during ski and snowboard season.
