TOWN OF FREMONT — An 8-year-old child is dead following a crash involving a horse drawn buggy, police said.

According to the Clark County Sheriff’s Department, the child was one of four children riding in the buggy Wednesday on Hwy. H west of Hi Line Avenue in the town of Fremont when the buggy was struck by a car.

The 17-year-old girl driving the car told police she struck the buggy when the vehicle ahead of her swerved. The girl, who is from the Neillsville area, was wearing a seat belt and was not injured, police said.

The other three children in the buggy, ages 6, 10, and 13, were ejected from the buggy and were injured in the crash, which remains under investigation.

No names will be released due to the age of the victims, police said.
