WAUSAU PILOT AND REVIEW

MADISON, Wis. — Wausau Pilot and Review won four statewide newspaper association awards Thursday, including three first-place prizes.

The awards were announced Thursday at the Wisconsin Newspaper Contest Awards Banquet in Madison.

Shereen Siewert, founder and editor of Wausau Pilot and Review, won first-place awards in the investigative reporting, reporting on local government, and local column categories. She also won a third-place award for environmental reporting.

Kirk Mitchell, a reporter with the Denver Post, was also named for collaborating with Siewert in the investigative reporting category for their work on a story about a partner in a Wausau development project with a previously undisclosed criminal past.

The awards come days before Wausau Pilot and Review is set to celebrate its 2-year anniversary. The hyper-local, independent, online news organization launched in March 2017.

The winners were announced during the Wisconsin Newspaper Association’s annual convention, which took place this year at the Madison Concourse Hotel. The contest covered work done between September 2017 and August 2018.
