WAUSAU PILOT AND REVIEW

Milder temperatures and periods of rain tonight through Thursday could result in flooding and even structural damage to homes and buildings throughout the region, according to weather officials.

Urban areas will likely see minor flooding and ponding of water on roads, parking lots and sidewalks in locations where storm sewer gates are covered with snow and ice.

But residents should also watch for possible structural damage as the rain falling on snow-covered roofs will only add additional weight to roofs already burdened with several inches of snow cover.

Snow cover across the area will likely absorb some of the rainfall and slow the runoff into area streams and rivers, but melting of snow and at least some rain runoff will lead to an increased risk of flooding through the end of the week. Ice jam flooding is also possible.

A flood watch is in effect until Friday morning, with up to an inch of additional rain predicted for the area.
