WAUSAU — The Wisconsin Institute for Public Policy and Service and UW-Stevens Point at Wausau Continuing Education will host two specialized tours of the Madison and Washington, D.C., capitals. These behind-the-scenes tours will be led by longtime Madison insider and WIPPS Fellow Dave Anderson.

Best of Madison trip April 23-24

Departing Wausau by motor coach on April 23, the Madison experience begins with lunch and program overview by Stuart Levitan, a mainstay of Madison media and government since 1975. He is an award-winning print and broadcast journalist and, since 1987, has been a labor mediator/arbitrator for the State of Wisconsin. Stuart narrates the history of Madison and this well-known university. The talk is followed by a walking and bus tour of Madison.

The following day Anderson will lead the up-close-and-personal look at the Wisconsin Historical Society, Overture Center, Veterans Museum and the State Capitol. The tour itinerary includes time with scheduled lawmakers, lunch with Supreme Court Justice Ann Walsh Bradley. Participants will wrap up the day with a private tour and tasting of Madison’s Capital Brewery.

Space is limited. The trip includes transportation, overnight accommodations and most meals. Cost is $399, double occupancy.

Deadline to register is March 21. For questions or assistance with registering, contact Continuing Education at 715-261-6294.

Best of Nation’s Capital trip Oct. 27-Nov. 1

WIPPS and UW-Stevens Point at Wausau Continuing Education will partner with Road Scholar, world’s largest and creator of experiential learning opportunities for this excursion.

Some of the unique aspects of the Washington, D.C., trip include:

  • An up-close and personal look at the workings of government – dine or meet with key current and former office holders and policymakers for behind-the-scenes discussions about headlines today.  Former Congressional leaders from both sides of the political aisle will discuss how Congress works – and how it has changed in recent years.
  • VIP tours of the U.S. Capitol by the offices of those who currently represent Wisconsin in Washington; and first hand insight into how states like Wisconsin try to shape national policy to effectively meet the needs of their citizens back home.
  • Learning experiences at Washington’s vibrant cultural institutions, including the Smithsonian Museums, National Gallery of Art, Library of Congress, Kennedy Center and a live theater performance

Every step of the way, the group will be escorted by Anderson, longtime state and federal official. In the course of his 39-year career, Anderson has been honored to have worked for a United States senator, two members of the United States house of representatives, and three governors, all from Wisconsin.

Space is limited. To ensure a place, register by April 1. For questions or assistance with registering, contact Continuing Education at 715-261-6294.
